Jammu & Kashmir News : LG Sinha Calls for Quaternary Care Corridor, Advanced Healthcare & Biomedical Research in J&K

Srinagar, August 27: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today addressed the Quaternary Healthcare & Research Summit in Srinagar, calling for a major shift towards advanced healthcare and research in Jammu & Kashmir. The Lieutenant Governor said Jammu & Kashmir must move beyond tertiary care and develop a robust quaternary healthcare ecosystem to ensure equal access to advanced treatment for every citizen.

Quaternary care should not be a privilege reserved for the economically rich section of society. It must become a right of citizenship and a guarantee of the nation,” LG Sinha said.He proposed establishing a Quaternary Care Corridor connecting district hospitals and tertiary care centres with specialised quaternary institutions. He also stressed the integration of telemedicine and AI-enabled diagnostics into the healthcare system.

LG Sinha called upon hospitals to transform themselves into research institutions equipped for organ transplantation, robotic and precision surgery, advanced genomics, cellular therapies and AI-supported diagnostics. He also urged greater training and fellowship opportunities in specialised fields such as oncology, genomics, transplantation and critical care.

Emphasising the need for indigenous innovation, the Lieutenant Governor said, “We must develop new inventions ourselves instead of importing innovation from abroad.”He further proposed a Biomedical Research Mission involving Himalayan states, universities, hospitals, private institutions and innovators to strengthen collaborative research and address funding challenges.

The Lieutenant Governor said advanced healthcare must become accessible to all sections of society and urged stakeholders to work collectively towards building a modern, equitable and research-driven healthcare system in Jammu & Kashmir. On the occasion, LG Sinha released the Summit Souvenir and several publications. Senior officials, medical experts, researchers, scientists and heads of various institutions attended the summit.
