Jammu & Kashmir News : Pulwama Police Bust Major Drug Smuggling Attempt, Recover 586 Grams of Heroin-Like Substance; One Arrested

Pulwama, July 16 : In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan, Pulwama Police foiled a major narcotics smuggling bid and recovered approximately 586 grams of heroin-like substance during a naka checking operation at Tahab Crossing. According to police officials, a suspicious intra-auto vehicle was intercepted and subjected to a thorough search during the checking operation. During the inspection, police recovered around 586 grams of heroin-like substance concealed behind the driver’s seat of the vehicle. The accused has been identified as Masood Ahmad Bhat, son of Mukhtar Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kunjipora, Lajoora. He was immediately taken into custody, while the recovered contraband and the vehicle used in the alleged commission of the crime were seized on the spot.

Police have registered FIR No. 113/2026 at Police Station Pulwama under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation into the case has been initiated to ascertain possible forward and backward linkages in the narcotics network. Pulwama Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking and substance abuse. The police also appealed to the public to actively support the anti-drug campaign by sharing information related to narcotics activities in their localities. The action reflects the district police’s continued resolve to eradicate the menace of drugs and safeguard the youth from the devastating effects of narcotics.
