Jammu and Kashmir News : Mohd Shafi alias “Babbar Sher” Appeals for Restoration of Articles 370 and 35A

Jammu & Kashmir: Mohd Shafi, popularly known as “Babbar Sher,” has appealed to the Central Government to reconsider its 5 August 2019 decision and restore Article 370 and Article 35A. In his statement, he urged the Government to respect the aspirations of the people of Jammu & Kashmir and take constitutional steps toward restoring their rights. He emphasized that the issue should be addressed through the constitutional framework while taking into account the sentiments of the people.

It is noteworthy that on 5 August 2019, the Government of India revoked the special status of Jammu & Kashmir by rendering most provisions of Article 370 inoperative and reorganizing the former state into Union Territories. The decision has remained a subject of differing political opinions. Mohd Shafi’s remarks represent a political appeal. As of now, there has been no official response from the Central Government regarding his statement.
