Rabel Shraddha Nand Pati Asserts He Will Secure Mehraj Malik’s Release Within 72 Hours

Doda, Jammu and Kashmir – In a significant development, Shraddha Nand Pati has declared that he will ensure the release of Mehraj Malik, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Jammu and Kashmir, within 72 hours. Mehraj Malik was recently arrested following a case filed by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Doda.

On 9th September, the local administration arrested Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The official reason given for the arrest is that Mehraj Malik allegedly used abusive language against the DC Doda during a Facebook Live session. This controversial move has led to strong reactions across the political spectrum.

Several political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have condemned the application of the PSA in this case. They argue that the PSA was originally intended as a tool to deal with anti-social elements and serious threats to public order, not to target elected representatives or political dissent. A number of leaders have called the use of the PSA against Mehraj Malik “unjustified and politically motivated.” One prominent voice stated, “The PSA is meant to handle criminals and anti-national elements, not the legitimate voices of the people’s representatives.”

Following Malik’s arrest, widespread protests erupted in Doda, with large numbers of residents demanding his immediate release. In response, the local administration imposed a lockdown in the area and suspended internet services to prevent further unrest. The situation remains tense, with continued public anger over what many view as an abuse of power.

Shraddha Nand Pati has positioned himself at the forefront of the campaign to free Mehraj Malik. Speaking to the media, he asserted, “We will bring Mehraj Malik out of jail within 72 hours.” He strongly criticized the administration’s actions and emphasized the need for democratic rights and accountability in governance.

The application of the PSA against Mehraj Malik has raised serious questions about its misuse. Activists and political observers have pointed out that such laws should not be used to suppress dissent or political rivalry but only to protect public safety in extreme situations.

The situation in Doda continues to be unstable, with security forces deployed and the internet still suspended, making independent reporting difficult. However, several posts on social media, before the shutdown, indicated that protests were growing and public sentiment remained strongly in favor of Mehraj Malik.

More updates are expected as Shraddha Nand Pati advances his efforts to challenge the detention and restore democratic norms.
