Jammu & Kashmir News : Director SKIMS Inspects Waterlogged SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Orders Immediate Restoration and Permanent Flood Mitigation Measures

Srinagar, July 20 : Director SKIMS Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, on Monday carried out an extensive inspection of SKIMS Medical College Hospital, Bemina, following severe waterlogging triggered by incessant rainfall and adverse weather conditions. During the inspection, Prof. Ganie reviewed the impact of flooding on hospital infrastructure, patient care and essential healthcare services. Expressing concern over the inconvenience faced by patients, attendants and medical staff, he directed the Principal, SKIMS Medical College, and the Medical Superintendent to take immediate steps for restoring normal hospital operations. He instructed the Engineering Wing to deploy sufficient dewatering pumps and utilise all available resources to expedite the removal of accumulated water from the hospital premises, ensuring that healthcare services continue without disruption.

Highlighting the need for a lasting solution, the Director said that repeated incidents of waterlogging at the flood-prone hospital campus cannot be addressed through temporary measures alone. He directed the Principal to submit a comprehensive report within one week detailing the causes of the flooding, immediate remedial measures undertaken, and a roadmap for long-term mitigation. Prof. Ganie also announced the constitution of a high-level committee to prepare a sustainable flood mitigation plan for the hospital. The committee’s recommendations, he said, will be forwarded to the competent authorities for implementation of permanent infrastructure measures aimed at protecting the hospital from future flooding. Reaffirming SKIMS’ commitment to uninterrupted patient care, the Director assured that all necessary measures would be taken to strengthen the hospital’s preparedness against adverse weather and prevent recurrence of such incidents.
